St Lucian Spirit Carnival Band has been in the carnival arena for 30 years now. Over the years the Band has won many titles: Band of the year, Best design, Most Colourful Band, King of the Bands, Queen of the Bands, Junior Queen, Junior King.The Band caters to all carnival lovers and there is a costume to suit everyone. We aim to please our revelers and provide an exciting atmosphere to play Mas in St. Lucia.

The band has been under the leadership of Joan Hinkson from its inception and whereas the faces of some executive members have changed one thing still endures. The executive is all female. This perhaps explains why our costumes are always well made, neat, and as one reveler once said “I can even wear my costume to go out.” 

Over the years St.Lucian Spirit Carnival Band has portrayed many themes. Our best year was when we portrayed Out of Egypt and captured every available title that year. However we always talked about AFRICA as a portrayal that we had not really looked at seriously and this is why for carnival 2009 we decided to delve into the great continent of Africa and showcase some of its many great attributes.

Our portrayal for Carnival 2009 is JAMBO AFRIKA which is Swahili for HELLO AFRICA. The Band will portray Tribes, Wildlife, Festivals, Colours and Sights by way of six sections.

ZULU, ZEBRA, MOMBASSA CARNIVAL, COLOURS OF AFRICA, MASKS and SAHARA.
